An unfortunate casualty of the foreclosure crisis are homeowner’s pets that are often left behind, abandoned to fend for themselves.
The stress and depression that foreclosure causes for some homeowners, makes people act in irrational ways. Some have to move so fast, often to hotels, where pets are not allowed and they have no choice. Many times it is just irresponsible people to begin with.
Ed. comment: Ironically, the damage that unattended pets can do to an abandoned home further harms the value of the property—adding yet another factor upon many to an already distressed market.
I wanted to include a a website here for pet owners that are facing foreclosure and would like to arrange a new home for their pet(s). Please, you owe it to your pets and it is the “right” thing to do. So, I encourage anyone facing foreclosure and has animalas to reach out for assistance with your pets in a humane and safe way.
I have included a great website below that will assist homeowners that need help with their pets.
www.BestFriends.org works with humane society’s across the country.
Best Friends is working with you — and with humane groups all across the country — to bring about a time when there are No More Homeless Pets. The sanctuary, at the heart of Southern Utah’s Golden Circle of national parks, is home, on any given day, to about 1,500 dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, birds and other animals. In our home state, Best Friends manages a model No More Homeless Pets campaign with shelters and humane groups statewide to ensure that every healthy dog or cat that’s ever born can be guaranteed a loving home. And Best Friends reaches across the nation, helping humane groups, individual people, and entire communities to set up spay/neuter, shelter, foster, and adoption programs in their own neighborhoods, cities, and states.
